About
Born Adolph Johannes Brand, Abdullah Ibrahim is a pianist from Cape Town, South Africa who has distinguished himself in a number of music fields including jazz, folk and gospel. Having kick-started his career as a pianist at the age of 15, Ibrahim found global fame in the 1950s. He has performed alongside artists like Max Roach, Kippie Moeketsi and Randy Weston. His work alongside renowned soloists and groups as well as his solo works have contributed towards his success. One of Ibrahim's most famous pieces is "Mannenberg," referred to, by many, as an anti-apartheid anthem.
