About
Cry Innocent: The People vs. Bridget Bishop is one of the longest-running theatrical performances north of Boston. Based on an incident during the Salem witch trials, it has been performed continuously since the mid-1900s. This piece of interactive theater is set in Salem, 1692, where Bridget Bishop has been accused of witchcraft and stands trial before the Puritan jury. Accounts are narrated, witnesses are cross-examined and a verdict is reached by the end of the performance. While a major chunk of the show is performed at the Salem Old Town Hall, the first scene - a reenactment of Bishop's arrest - is rendered on the town streets.
