Smoking Popes is a punk-inspired pop group from Illinois that was formed in 1991. While several pop punk groups have distinctively whiny vocalists, Smoking Popes' singers are tuneful crooners who sound like they'd be easily at home performing atop a stage in a Las Vegas nightclub in the 50s. Though the group broke up in 1999, the members decided to mend their wounds and reform in 2005.
