When the California-based alternative rock band Linkin Park burst on the scene in 2000 with its debut album, Hybrid Theory, the group was just another entry in the congested pack of nu metal acts. As the band matured, though, it started to drift away from its rap-rock sound and into more easily accessible alternative rock stylings. Continuing to tour and release music, the band became one of the more stalwart acts on the modern hard rock scene. Tragedy struck the group, however, in 2017 when Lead singer Chester Bennington committed suicide.
