Whatevermortal is the moniker of an American multi-instrumentalist who specializes in creating lurching, drone music that exists without any clear sonic direction. Though auxiliary musicians are brought in to fill out Whatevermortal's vast sound during live performances, studio releases are created by one man--understandably so, considering the music's individualistic nature would undoubtedly be compromised if several instrumentalists were contributing to the sound. Many of the songs that Whatevermortal creates are notorious for being difficult to listen to, because of the loose knit structure of the songs, with no choruses, no vocals and no memorable hooks, but some music aficionados consider the avant-garde band's style to be extremely unique and well suited for today's multifaceted music landscape.
