Sidi Touré

Mixing traditional and modern sounds, Sidi Touré is a folk singer/songwriter from Mali who creates modern blues and afrobeat-inspired music. Though he is a renowned musician in Mali, where he won two national best singer awards and serves as leader of Gao's regional orchestra, he is known internationally for appearing in French filmmaker Vincent Moon's Take-Away Show, a series featuring the music of independent musicians. Touré released his debut album Hoga, in 1996 before making the leap to Thrill Jockey Records. He released his 2011 effort Sahel Folk, followed by Koïma in 2012 with textured instrumentation and western flavor.
