Colin Meloy

Widely recognized as the lead vocalist of The Decemberists, Colin Meloy is a singer/songwriter and musician from Helena, MT who has earned acclaim for his theatrical songwriting style. Having been recording music since the eighth grade, Meloy has spent time in various indie folk projects including his high school band Happy Cactus as well as his college band, Tarkio. After graduating school, he relocated to Portland where he had to re-establish himself as a songwriter at open mic nights and subsequently began to fearlessly explore his craft while performing in empty bars. Soon after he met Jenny Conlee and Nate Query in 2000 and formed the indie folk rock band The Decemberists. While still working full-time with his new band, Meloy embarked on his first solo tour in support of his 2005 EP Colin Meloy Sings Morrisey. He has since released a handful of cover records, including Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke, and a live album from 2008.
