This show was adapted from the Fyodor Dostoyevsky novel of 1872, Besy (Бесы); English translations: The Possessed; The Devils; Demons. Peter Stein has created a 12-hour experience for both audiences and actors. The piece is effectively nine hours long with three hours of intermissions, including two long breaks for lunch and dinner. You would be hard-pressed to find a more 'Russian' experience outside the country than a day-long performance of one of their most renowned exports, the writer who left the world Crime and Punishment.
