Retro Stefson is an alternative pop band that was formed in Reykjavik in 2006. Combing elements of afrobeat with a shining pop sensibility, the seven-piece band released its debut album Montaña, exclusively in Iceland in 2008. The band generated widespread attention in its home country by the time it released its second album Kimbabwe, in 2010, and even reached audiences in Europe, where the German subsidiary of Vertigo Records began distributing its albums. Retro Stefson dropped its eponymous third album in 2012 and has since been spreading its plague onto western audiences.
