HC Slovan Bratislava

HC Slovan Bratislava is one of Slovakia's best ice hockey teams. The team was founded in 1921 as CsSK hockey and spent much of its early years playing in regional leagues. In 1948, its name was changed to Slovan Bratislava and soon became one of the top teams in the erstwhile Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League. It switched to the Slovak Extraliga after the formation of Slovakia in 1993 and continued its dominance. HC Slovan Bratislava was crowned champions of Slovakia for the first time in 1998 and since then it has gone on to become one of the country's most successful teams. In 2004, it added an IIHF Continental Cup to its impressive trophy collection.
