The Detroit-based soccer club, Michigan Stars FC is one of the toughest competitors of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). The team was founded in 1982 and was formerly known as FC Sparta Michigan. While it spent most of its years playing in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), it moved to the newly formed NISA in 2019.
