About
One of Finland's most popular ice hockey clubs, IFK Helsinki (HIFK) is also one of the SM-liiga's toughest competitors. The team was founded in 1897 and although it took a while for HIFK to win its first championship, it eventually became one of the country's dominant forces. Through its history the team has won multiple first division championships as well as the Ahearne Cup and Tamepere Cup. While it is yet to claim European silverware, a second-placed finish is its best finish in the IIHF European Cup.
