RK Celje is undoubtedly one of Slovenia's most successful handball clubs. Since its foundation in 1946, it has been one of the toughest teams to beat and has carved a distinct niche for itself in the history book of the sport. Domestically it has been an unstoppable force ever since the introduction of the new league and cup tournaments were introduced in 1991. It won the Slovenian First League and the Slovenian Cup ten times in a row from the 1991-92 and 2000-01 seasons unsurprisingly holds the record for the most number of titles in both tournaments. In 2003-04 it won EHF Champions League for the first time and earned its place amongst the giants of Europe.
