The Hornet is the moniker of the intercollegiate sports teams of Delaware State University. The Delaware State Hornets are comprised of 16 athletics teams, including tennis, basketball, track and field and cross country. Competing in the NCAA Division I as members of the Mid-Western Athletic Conference, the Hornets are most-renowned for their football and men's and women's basketball teams. Their main rivals are the Fightin' Blue Hens from the University of Delaware, with home they compete in the annual regular season Route 1 Rivalry game for the First State Cup.
