Born to a family of industrious Pennsylvania coal miners, Smokin' Joe Kubek took an immediate interest in music. After the family moved the entire clan to Texas, Kubek fancied the rich Texas blues sound that was blossoming at the time. After immersing himself in the sound and playing with the likes of the legendary Freddie King, Kubek went on to form his own outfit to tour around the country playing smokey blues bars.
