Hailing from Johannesburg, South Africa The Awakening is an alternative rock band that was formed in 1995. Led by vocalist, guitarist and producer Ashton Nyte, the band weaves together elements of new wave, gothic rock and heavy metal to craft its own dark, alternative sound. Since the release of its debut LP Risen, in 1997, the group has garnered widespread national and international acclaim with its various tours and subsequent releases, particularly its 1999 offering, Ethereal Menace. Now recognized as South Africa's most successful Gothic rock outfit, The Awakening continues to maintain an ardent recording schedule.
