Although Larry Morganfield took his mother's maiden name, the eldest son of Muddy Waters adopted the nickname "Mud" at a very early age. Although he rarely saw his famous father, who is widely-considered the father of modern Chicago blues, the two men kept in contact enough to inspire Mud to embrace his natural musical gifts and deep, resounding voice. Mud's 2008 album, Fall Waters Fall, demonstrates such a pure Chicago blues sound that he has been billed as "Muddy Waters Jr." for his striking likeness to his legendary father.
