The Zips represents the athletic programs and intercollegiate teams of the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. As a member of the NCAA's Division I, the university competes in the Mid-American Conference and the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Frequently ranked highly within the conference, Akron's men's soccer team made it to the NCAA's Division I Championship in 2009, ultimately losing to the University of Virginia. Other men's and women's sports supported by the school include football, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, softball and volleyball.
