Coldcut is an English electronic duo that was formed in 1986 by computer programmer Matt Black and ex-art school teacher Jonathan More, who were both DJs on the rare groove scene. After discovering a shared appreciation for a distinctive style of music that primarily focused on chopped up samples of hip-hop, jazz and spoken word, they decided to form a group and started making music together. Coldcut's first LP, What's that Noise?, was a resounding success, both commercially and critically, helping the duo become one of the forerunning acts of the burgeoning early 1990s English electronic music scene.
