Ras Tewelde

At only 14 years old, Ras Tewelde was singing with one of Italy's first reggae bands, Living in the Ghetto. While touring with this band between 1998 and 2002, Tewelde adopted the Rastafarian faith, prompting him to go to Ethiopia where he collaborated with singer Dawit Geletu on the single "Belstra." In 2005, back in Italy, he released his first solo EP, Jah a Di Teacha. In 2007, Tewelde traveled to Jamaica to make music before returning to Africa where he played shows in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Ethiopia. His first album, One Way Ticket: Raster at Home and Abroad, was released in 2011 and showcases his signature roots music sound.
