After beginning his career as a Top 40 DJ in the early 1990s, D-Monic realized his heart wasn't in the work and set out to explore more satisfying options. His search brought him into the thick of Canada's rave culture, an experience that set his career trajectory toward a new set of genre influences, including funky techno and progressive house. The new lively, up-tempo, breakbeat style led D-Monic around the country, spinning at some of the top parties and clubs in Canada. In the summer of 2000, he founded Pure Phunk an event-based project that promotes breakbeat culture and electronic music in general throughout the country.
