About
The BBC Symphony Orchestra is one of Britain's leading orchestras and the principal symphony orchestra for the British Broadcasting Corporation. Active in its present incarnation since 1946, a year after the end of World War II, the BBC Symphony Orchestra was able to rise from the ashes of its predecessors under the guidance of famed British conductor Sir Adrian Boult as a much stronger ensemble. The BBC Symphony has become the principal orchestra of The Proms, Britain's world-famous yearly series of classical music concerts given at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and has achieved the status as one of the world's more iconic orchestras as a result. On top of performing the standard repertoire of classical music, the BBC Symphony Orchestra is also acclaimed for its willingness to premier new works by composers throughout the world--ensuring that its repertoire stays consistently fresh and new as a result.
