Thee Headcoats

Thee Headcoats was a garage rock band that formed in Kent, England in 1989. The band was comprised of lead vocalist and guitarist Billy Childish, drummer and backup vocalist Bruce Brand and Johnny Johnson on bass. Throughout its short career, Thee Headcoats were known for never tampering with its signature garage rock sound, which stemmed from Childish's affinity for simple and straightforward music. The band's female counterpart, Thee Headcoatees, was an all-female vocal group made up of Holly Golightly, Kyra LaRubia, Ludella Black and Bongo Debbie that often performed and recorded with Thee Headcoats. Not too far ahead of the punk scene of the 1970s, the band's rock and roll sound had echos of punk and blues, evident on all of its 25 of Thee Headcoats recordings, beginning with the 1989 debut Headcoats Down!. The band split up amicably in 2000 to pursue different musical projects.
