The Black Skirts

The Black Skirts (검정치마) is an indie rock band from Seoul that draws a substantial amount of influence from similar bands from the West while managing to retain a stark originality that has many familiar with the South Korean indie scene watching the band's every move. Led by Cho Hyu-il (조휴일), aka Bryan Cho, The Black Skirts were formed in 2004 in New York City as a small rock trio that performed in the styles of rock its members were used to hearing at live music venues throughout the city. Having returned to Korea in 2006, The Black Skirts brought back with them the New York indie styles they were able to pick up while away, giving many of South Korea's rising legions of indie rock fans a new reason to keep up with the genre.
