W&Whale (더블유앤웨일) is an indie pop/electronica duo from Seoul that is a synthesis of the already well-known pop group W (short for When the Story Ends) and Whale, a particularly celebrated female vocalist in her own right. Since releasing their debut album Hardboiled in late 2008, W&Whale earned tremendous acclaim for the duo's perfect combination of Whale's pitch-perfect, bluesy vocal style with the ecstatic, pop-oriented electronic stylings of W. As independent music continues to gain a much stronger footing as a viable alternative within South Korea's thriving music industry, many can thank W&Whale for their contributions towards making Korea's indie scene that much more visible to the mainstream.
