Orphaned Land

Orphaned Land, originally named Resurrection, is an Israeli progressive metal band that was founded in 1991.  Orphaned Land blends death metal and Middle Eastern folk music, specifically of Jewish and Arabic origin, into a unique sound, which falls under the genre oriental metal. The band derives song meanings from folkloric, religious, and biblical origins. Often there is an incorporation of traditional chants and prayers woven into the music, such as the group's 1996 sophomore album, El Norra Alila, which is based upon an atonement prayer sung on the Jewish holiday, Yom Kipur.
