Whether creating original productions or rapping over chopped up remixes of popular tracks, Swell and Season, the two MCs that form Metermaids, have quickly made names for themselves in Brooklyn's hip-hop community. The group's music found the ears of rap production guru 9th Wonder, who offered to produce and record its next project in his personal studio. The collaboration resulted in Rooftop Shake, an EP that strikes a nice balance between Metermaid's rowdy rap style and the dusty vintage soul influences that 9th Wonder provided. In 2008, the duo released an all mash-up album entitled Nightlife in Illinois, which featured reworkings of tracks by the likes of Spoon and Grizzly Bear.
