While some are quick to regard Colorado as a state that's only capable of breeding musicians who are attracted to creating back-woodsy folk and front porch bluegrass material, they're ignorant to other styles of music that blatantly permeate the state and ears of attuned followers of the multifaceted Rocky Mountain music scene. One of these lesser-suspected genres that's making waves in Colorado is garage rock. Though large metropolitan centers like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and San Francisco might be hubs for this style of music, Denver is also starting to build a scene of its own with bands like Hearts in Space. The quartet makes simple, guitar-centric music with psychedelic-influenced harmonies that hearken back to 1960s-era British invasion material. Formed in 2009, the four-piece has already managed to establish itself as a forthright band that's unafraid to look to the past for musical influences and vintage recording techniques.
