Initially formed as a solo project for MC Yonnas Abraham, BLKHRTS (formerly Black Hearts) became a full-fledged band when the four other MCs that had occasionally collaborated with Abraham decided to permanently flesh out the act into a five-piece in late 2010. A few months later, BLKHRTS dropped a respectable debut that incorporates a variety of samples--everything from an obscure Eraserhead cut to a Stevie Wonder hook--and arranges them in completely unique ways. The result is a soulful fusion of hip-hop and alternative rock that has grabbed accolades from many local Denver publications.
