Canadian avant-garde musician Martin Messier is known for creating music out of surprising and decidedly unmusical sources. His Sewing Machine Orchestra project is exactly what it sounds like, yet incredibly complex and interesting in its execution. Taking the natural working sounds of vintage sewing machines from the 1940s, Messier takes those sounds, digitally manipulates them and then pieces them back together in a surreal audio/visual installation that somehow manages to conjure up a distinct and cohesive mood. On stage, Messier presents the actual machines to allow viewers to see the whole process live, in process.
