After listening to a few songs by the New York-based group No Surrender, it's blatantly apparent that this is a group trying hard to defy categorization. By blending the worlds of alternative hip-hop, Afro punk and electro, the trio has managed to carve out a unique and unmistakable sound for itself, that's unlike any other on the modern music scene. The group released its debut LP, White Power Black Magic, in 2003 and the album's mix of dense lyricism matched with off-beat and well produced rhythms helped establish the three-piece collective as an outfit willing to experiment with its sound in order to achieve almost transcendental greatness amongst serious music connoisseurs.
