The Breaking Lakes is an indie pop rock band from Ontario, Canada that has a name that seems all too ordinary, yet might cause the average indie listener, who's used to quickly skimming the names of thousands of band names, to subconsciously pause and take a closer look. Despite the amount of thought (or lack thereof) that went into formulating the band's "strangely familiar" name, most will be pleased to find out that even the subtlest mental tricks can lead to a wealth of musical discovery, and The Breaking Lakes is definitely no exception to this. Since the release of the band's debut album Sleeping Giants in 2010, the consensus seems to be that The Breaking Lakes' brand of synth-infused pop-rock is nothing short of excellent.
