Though her feet are firmly planted in the modern indie pop scene, Louise Burns' music nevertheless manages to vividly evoke the dreamy nostalgia and simple hooks of 1950s artists such as Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers. Burns has been writing songs and playing in bands throughout Canada since the age of 11, but it seems she's really found her comfort zone as a solo artist. On Mellow Drama, her debut LP, she croons atop a dozen breezily catchy songs full of hand-claps and tambourine shakes pulled straight out of vintage AM radio. Her attention to stripping songs down to their no frills basics make her a welcome addition to Vancouver's singer/songwriter and indie pop scenes.
