While both living and playing music in Vancouver, classical guitarist Kristen Cudmore and double bassist Finn Vaughan met through mutual friends and realized they both had grown up in the same small town in Nova Scotia. The two bonded over jazz, hip-hop and indie rock, and by 2004, the roots of Language-Arts had formed. Built around Cudmore's abstract but accessible songwriting and nylon-string guitar work, the band (now a four-piece) is known around Vancouver for creating quirky songs that convey its members' love of several different styles of music.
