Aleksey Igudesman, sometimes referred to as simply Igudesman, is a Russian violinist, composer, conductor and comedian who is perhaps best-known as one-half of the duo Igudesman & Joo. Renowned for his duet works, he has written several books on Klezmer, Celtic, Latin and Asian dueting styles and has also performed violin duets with artists such as Julian Rachlin, Gidon Kremer and Janine Jansen. As a soloist, he has worked with various orchestras, including the Lucerne Symphony and Virtuosi Italiani, and he was the featured violinist on the Academy Award-nominated soundtrack for the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes. Igudesman is also known for injecting his live performances with humor, bridging the the gap between stiff classical demeanor and laid back modernity.
