Ludwig II: Longing for Paradise is a German musical with book and lyrics by Stephan Barbarino and Heinz Hauser and music by Franz Hummel. The plot revolves around the story of Bavaria's "Mad King." After losing the war against Prussia, he came to power at the age of 18 and carelessly spent all the riches of his kingdom to build extravagant castles and sponsored various artists and was hence declared insane and deposed in 1886.
