Shortly after the fall of the Berlin wall, there was an explosion of artistic expression in Germany. Though there had been an existing electronic music scene in the city, after the fall the community really started to grow by leaps and bounds. During this time in the late-1980s Leipzig, Germany musician Paul Kalkbrenner was soaking up the scene and learning electronic compositional methods at an exponential growth. Though he was creating provocative dance music throughout the 1990s - mainly techno and electronica - Kalkbrenner didn't release his debut LP, Zeit, until 2001. He was already a fixture of the German electronic music community by the time his album dropped, but the release helped solidify his reputation as one of the premier emerging talents of the European dance music scene.
