About
Hailing from Hamburg, Abwärts is a post punk band that emerged in 1979. Though founding members Mark Chung and FM Einheit split from the group during the onset of the 1980s, the band went on to make its most beloved records, 1981's Amok Koma and 1982's Der Westen ist einsam. A pioneer of post punk in West Germany, the band is featured in the Jurgen Teipel's documentary Verschwende Deine Jugend, which captures the rise of post punk during the 1980s.
