Gotan Project is group that's unafraid to push the boundaries of what is acceptable in hard lined musical genres. The band, from Paris, originally wanted to only perform tango music, although, upon reflection, the band decided that playing erstwhile tango would lead the band nowhere and would leave people in the group with feeling unfulfilled. Because of this mindset, the group decided to incorporate modern elements, primarily samples, beats and breaks into its music to provide some originality and character. Since the band released its debut LP in 2000, Gotan Project has been honing and diversifying its sound consistently.
