Die Schöne und das Biest is a musical by the German composer Martin Doepke. Based on an idea by Andrea Friedrichs and Hans Halzbecher, it made its world premiere in September 1994 in the Sartory Theater in Cologne. Although similar to the Disney version of the fairy tale in many ways, one essential difference is that the story is based in Germany and not France. The protagonists also have German names.
