Starting off as a side project in 1998, Meow Meow became a full-time power pop gig for Pink Noise Test's Kirk Hellie and Chris O'Brien of Brian Jones Was Murdered after their respective bands dissolved. Hellie and O'Brien recruited a supporting band to record Meow Meow's 2004 debut album, Snow Gas Bones, a record that blends dream pop and 1990s grunge with analog production sonic aesthetics.
