Mistero buffo is written by Dario Fo, an Italian director, set designer, actor, playwright and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997. The show is essentially a long monologue which imitates the Padano dialect, the style of which is often called 'grammelot,' or using nonsensical words in order to convey meaning or expression. The comedian, or protagonist, makes fun of dogmas, whether philosophical or religious (or both), causing both a laugh and a moment of thought.
