The idea for Holzschlachten. ein Stück Arbeit, a theatrical drama, was conceived by Josef Bierbichler. Based on interviews with a doctor (Hans Münch) of a Nazi concentration camp, it narrates the daily events of the doctor's life working in the camps. Acquitted of his crimes, Münch talks of his role at Auschwitz in a manner so void of remorse and guilt that it leaves everyone in attendance uncomfortable. Through monologues by the writer Florian List, this one-man drama aims to explain how apathy can cause humans to take part in heinous acts without accepting moral responsibility.
