One of the leading acts in the medieval metal genre, Saltatio Mortis is a band from Mannheim, Germany that formed in 2000. With a motto like "those who dance don't die," it's no surprise that the band's name translates to "dance of death" in Latin. Saltatio Mortis released its debut album Tavernakel in 2001, exposing a blend of folk and hard rock that defines medieval metal music. The band would go on to release an album a year for the next ten years, aside from 2006 which was supplemented by a double album release in 2005.
