Hannes Wader is a German-born folk singer who has been active since the late 1960s. His greatest period of prominence spanned much of the 1970s, when he became a popular political singer and protest folk star known for his left-leaning beliefs. His career has seen a number of controversies throughout the decades due to his often polarizing political views and involvement with the Communist Party, yet he remains one of Germany's most important protest and folk artists. In addition to his own original material, Wader will often take on classic protest folk songs of yesteryear.
