Though best known for his comedy, calling Helge Schneider a comedian is an insufficient description. The entertainer also boasts the titles of jazz musician, actor, author and director of both film and theater. Schneider toured as a little-known jazz musician and stand-up comedian to get his career off the ground and soon became one of Germany's best known entertainers. His unique brand of comedy is playful, intellectual and unexpected, but its deep roots in the German language keep it from reaching such acclaim and appreciation in translation.
