Buena Vista Social Club

The Buena Vista Social Club was a members-only club in the Marianao neighborhood of Havana, Cuba. From the 1930s to the 1950s, the club hosted Cuba's most prominent musicians and allowed the artists to hang out in a relaxed environment where they could hold their own parties, dances and various musical activities. Though the Buena Vista Social Club closed down after the Cuban Revolution at the end of the 1950s, it inspired an internationally acclaimed recording of the same name by Cuban musician Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, American artist Ry Cooder and a group of traditional Cuban musicians, many of which were veteran performers at the original club.
