Ultraviolet Hippopotamus is an instrumental fusion band from Grand Rapids, Minnesota that makes a unique style of music by blending an assortment of genres together including jazz, electronica, funk and progressive rock. The group released its debut LP, Background Music, in 2006 and the album's impressive instrumental aptitude helped the group win over a regional following in the Great Lakes area. Though the band has continued to record and release albums of rewarding listening material, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus has primarily built a name for itself with its live shows--when each member's virtuosic skills are on full display.
