About
The English pop and rock singer Jacqui Abbott grew up in St. Helens, Merseyside, England. At an after-show party, an impromptu performance at the insistence of her friend led to Abbott's discovery by Paul Heaton, the lead singer of the Beautiful South, who was blown away by her vocals. More than a year later, she was sought-out by Heaton to audition for his band as a replacement for Briana Corrigan. The audition was a success and Abbott was lofted into the limelight. From 1994's Miaow to 2000's Painting it Red, she recorded four albums with the band and went on tour across the world. She was a part of some of its biggest hits including "Everybody's Talkin'" and "Don't Marry Her." She quit the band and was out of the public eye for a decade as she cared for her son. She reconnected with Heaton to perform in his musical The 8th, in 2011 and later went on to collaborate with him on the album What Have We Become?. She has since teamed up with Heaton on several occasions and also released a number of singles. Her warm vocals are beautifully showcased in her work, which includes the tracks "I Gotta Praise," "7" Singles," "Christmas (And Dad Wants Her Back)," "She Got the Garden" and "You and Me (Were Meant to be Together)."
