Lila Downs is a Mexican singer from Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca. She grew up with the culture of her father, an American professor, but also exploring the tradition of her mother, a Mexican Mixteca. These factors led her to create an individual strain of music that has indigenous roots as well as North American sounds.
